Siemens SXG75

Hiho,

got here a Siemens SXG75 and GPS-Watch 2.5.

Read the manual and played around quite a bit. Most stuff works fine. However, I got a few issues I find odd. - I'd like to know whether that's "just me" or whether this are "typical" or "known" limitations on the SXG75

1.- I cannot get my SXG75 to save downloaded maps on the MMC File system. This is not a permissions problem (tried it out with either "query" or "allow" options for fs-access). I created the folder-path "mmc-miscellaneous/GPSWatch/data" on the phone. To be on the safe side I also created a subfolder under the existing "miscellanous" folder ("GPSWatch/data"). - Nevertheless, these folders are completely empty. - Program settings are Cache Store "FileSystem" and "Max Cache" - OR do I have to create this folders on the phones buildin file-system? - If so, is there a way to use the expansion card?

2.- On the "trace route" screen the Trace indicator "TR:ON" or "TR:OFF" is concatenated and shown only as "TR:C" - This is quite annoying, since I never know, whether trace is on or off.

3.- The SXG75 has quite often misreadings from the builtin GPS of 0/0 coordinates. - As a result of this I get at times
- a download of a wrong map of "0/0"
- almost always messed up speed and distance stats, because of the
assumed movement to "0/0"

Since most likely 99.99% of GPS-Watch users never travel to exactly "0/0" I'd suggest, to tell the app to ignore these readings all the time.

4.- On the "Locate on Map" screen I have no option to load map from FS. - This could possibly be due to the problems I have under "1."

5.- I know from the docs that the SXG75 does not report altitudes. - However, I get bogus altitudes shown on the Navigate screen. - This is confusing. - Sounds to me like a bug - a "n/a" would look better to me.

Any help is welcome.

Regards

Stefan.

Hi Stefan, (1) We are facing

Hi Stefan,

(1) We are facing some problems while reading map files from SXG75 filesystem with a section of customers. We believe that its a firmware issue which is stoping the phone from using it as a cache as the same code works flawlessly in all other phones.

(2) We will certainly update the software to not truncate the TR status.

(3) This looks like a Siemens specific issue...I'm afraid to generalize to ignore 0,0 latitude longitude, anyways once we come up with a new release, we will give you a customized version.

(4) As you would have seen in may discussions, the Plat does not feature loading from hand created map files. The handcreation of map file and the meta data file was cumbersome so we have eliminated it in the Plat version (I hope you would have seen this in the features section).

(5) The SXG75 version is basically JSR179 phone version, so we did read the altitude values if provided by the phone, I think it should mostly be a issue with the phone for providing bogus values.

Thanks for writing to us.

Hiho,

has anyone managed yet to save a downloaded map on a SXG 75?

Hi admin, I updated my SXG75

Hi admin,

I updated my SXG75 to latest FW Rev. 26; also updated GPSWatch to 2.6 plat. - But unfortunately I cannot see any difference to the issues I posted:

(1) Saving maps in cache still doesn't work. - If there's anyone around who got it working pls let me know how.
(2) TR status is still truncated on GPSwatch 2.6
(3) This might be a Siemens issue ... but it might affect others to. I wish, there was a switch (like "ignore 0/0 coordinate readings")
(4) shure. But if I cannot cache maps, I have to re-download them every time ...
(5) This is not really a problem, but it's at times irritating - a config switch for this one would be great, too ("dont' display altitute readings").

Thanks a lot!

Hegi.
