Hi Everyone,
Have recently aquired latest GPSWatch Platinum.
Have set up spreadsheet so as to calculate area coordinates for use with OMD.
The first issue I have come accross is the requirement to specify an area that lies within on of the four quarters of the globe. The boundaries of these areas are defined as the great circles passing through the Prime meridian and the Equator. The intersection of these two great circles divide the globe into 4 equal areas. The OMD tool requires that the area selected for map download is wholly contained within on of these areas.
For example the area containing Greater London must be downloaded in two parts. One download for East of Greenwich and one for West of Greenwich.
This raises the question, how does one combine these two resulting areas into one? (Ie the whole of Geater London).
During the download process one can see the png format map tiles being gathered. However the file written in the download directory on completion has no extension.
Is there any way that the contents of the map file can be examined or edited?
I have tried renaming the file with .zip and .rar extensions without sucess and was wondering if there was an extension that would permit such access?
To finish, I noticed another query on the forum regarding handing over of maps as the boudary of one was crossed into a neighbouring area. Is this possible with maps downloaded with the OMD tool?
Thanks in advance
Dave
Hi all, Have browsed through
Hi all,
Have browsed through the entire forum in detail and it would seem that many people are having a great deal of trouble with the OMD tool and the map files it generates.
Also apparent is the distinct lack of response from the GPSWatch crew to many of the queries raised.
The documentation needs to be a lot clearer regarding procedures for loading maps and regarding the limitations of the OMD tool.
Could the GPSWatch team please take the time to re-read the threads in the forum and revise the documentation accordingly.
It would also be greatly beneficial for the forum to be organised so that queries are more logically arranged. ie There should be a seperate thread for OMD and maps etc.
It would seem the potential for the program is vast and the current user base very enthusiastic.
However Interchain need to get to grips with both the issues raised and the protracted time interval of their replies to them.
Failure to do this will inevitably see many users move away from the project in frustration.
Communication is the first law of business.
